I have created this blog as a direct response and reaction to blogs and online commentary by various anti-theists (people who are against religion and in my opinion different from an atheist) and anti-christs (people who are specifically against Christianity) who make it their mission to proclaim that the bible is a source of "evil" and that Christianity (and other Abrahamic religions) are "oppressive". I felt that it was necessary to create an entire blog and dedicate it to this purpose for two reasons:
I would like to clarify that I do not want to indoctrinate anyone. I simply wish to give readers the opportunity to read an opposing but I hope moderate argument to those they might have read elsewhere and also to pass along some information in regards to what the Christian Bible actually says in context.
I will try to keep my personal opinion and any conclusion out of the various posts as much as possible however I feel that I should make it clear that it's impossible for any human to be completely unbiased. Even the subjects I chose to discuss will obviously be somewhat subjective based on my taste or other factors.
I feel that I am in a position to present this blog because I am a Christian and I also have a BSc (Hons) Archaeology. I feel that as a Christian I know the bible quite well and as an archaeologist I have a good knowledge of the historical societies in which it was written.
Finally I would like to say that I believe everyone is responsible for their own actions so ultimately even if you enjoy reading my blog do not simply trust me. Do your own research and form your own opinions.
- I believe that new converts to Christianity and people who are not Christians but just have an interest in other people's beliefs, religion, mythology etc will likely find it useful or interesting to see a counter argument.
- Many of the people who create hatred filled blogs filled with scripture impose their own interpretation on what is written and then go so far to publish it out of context in order to make it fit their agenda. I do not believe that is acceptable in any field of debate. In my humble opinion people should allow the source material to speak for itself as much as is humanly possible, and indeed that is what I intend to do.
- The same anti-theists and anti-christs mentioned above often have no comment section on their blog or contact information by which their claims can be responded to. It is my personal belief that the purpose of this is because they are consciously aware that they have misrepresented the information they present. Readers are asked to question their motives for doing so and indeed question mine.
